The Alchemist
By Ben Jonson

REVIEWS
"
Everything happens wittily in this thorn-sharp show, where James and Swanton, in particular, grift most profitably. "  - York Press

"If you too are feeling a little tired of Shakespeare this year, The Alchemist, directed by Tom Straszewski, is both a breath of fresh air and a gasp of delight.... The Alchemist proves that slapstick comedy, raw talent and a centuries-old script are a raucously loud recipe for success." - Arts York

Performed at the Dogrose Theatre as part of York International Shakespeare Festival 2019
11 - 15 May 2019

Three con-artists set up shop in an abandoned house.
They’ll make you young, rich and famous...
(All it’ll cost you is your life’s savings.)

Soon the scammers are stumbling over each other, as Face, Subtle and Doll juggle a stream of missionaries, drug-dealers, lawyers, toffs and tarts. Can they get away with it before the landlord returns for his unfair share?

An uproarious comedy full of slapstick, tomfoolery and blatant idiocy
